Did you know you can make your own smartphone speakers using recyclables? This is a quick and fun project to do together with your teen or tween at home! These speakers will work with any smartphone. The smartphone speakers also act as a stand for the smartphone and can be decorated however you would like. This would be a great project for a rainy day, and you could spend the afternoon listening to your favorite music, podcasts, or audiobooks together. If you enjoy this project, you may also like to make your own smartphone projector!
To Make Your Own Smartphone Speakers, You Will Need:
- 2 Paper Cups – We love the bright colors on these rainbow cups!
- 1 Empty Paper Towel Roll (cut in half)
- Tempera Paint and/or Washi Tape (optional)
- Craft Knife
- Pencil
- Smartphone
Directions:
Begin by using tempera paint and/or washi tape to decorate the cups and cardboard tube. Once the paint is completely dry, use a pencil to trace the bottom of the smartphone onto the side of the cardboard tube.
Next, use a kraft knife to carefully cut the traced outline as shown above.
After that, use the pencil to trace the circumference of the cardboard tube onto the side of the two paper cups. Once again, use a craft knife to carefully cut the traced outline. Next, insert each end of the cardboard tube into the side of a paper cup as shown below.
Lastly, insert your smartphone into the slot of the cardboard tube, and play your favorite music, podcasts, or audio books!
Have fun!!
