Garden Things That Make Me Smile

We’ve been working hard on our garden plot this Summer, and it has been well-worth it! Here are some things from the garden that make me smile!!

My little helper doing her share of weeding — and offering to do it on her own!

Roma tomatoes waiting for just the right moment to ripen — I have big plans for these!!

Posing for silly photos — pretending to be Vanna White showing off the potatoes!!

Cucumbers that like to play hide ‘n seek!!

Beautiful heads of broccoli — Emily is very excited for these!!

Catching caterpillars on the carrots, raising them in a terrarium at home, and watching them turn into beautiful Black Swallowtail butterflies!! Magical!!!

And Emily’s first ever Lemonade stand!!!

Summertime bliss!!

  1. Emily’s dress is so pretty! And your garden looks stunning – all that hard work is paying off!

    • Thanks, Maryanne! That little sundress is one of Emily’s favorites. I always love spending time at the garden — and the girls do too! 🙂

  2. We found an itty bitty little green cherry tomato yesterday. I wonder who will be the first to get it?!?!?

    • Exciting!!! We didn’t plant any cherry tomatoes this year — I’m starting to regret that decision because they are always the first to ripen & I get too impatient. 😉

  3. Your garden looks wonderful! It’s so much fun when the kids take an interest and help too.

  4. Dear Valerie,

I am quite certain that the cucumber plant is going to strangle one of our tomato plants. I’ve had to separate the two of them a few times already this season!

    Love,
    Mark

  5. Very cute — I love the lemonade stand…. makes me want to have some. Great colors. I was going to attempt a garden this year – but we had a wet, cold spring and I didn’t find the time to get out there. But there is always next year.

  6. Y’all EVEN grow butterflies- AMAZING!

  7. Can you make my garden grow like that? It certainly doesn’t seem to. It does grow weeds quite well.

  8. I’m anxiously awaiting my first tomatoes! I can’t wait!!

  9. Everything looks wonderful Valerie. You make a wonderful Vanna White 🙂 I also love Emily’s lemonade stand. Oh by the way, what do you use to “hatch” the caterpillars??? My daughter would absolutely love that.

  10. Everything looks so great. Our veggies & herbs are tiny because we started late this year. We’ve had a lot of rain & cool weather here.

  11. Hey Valerie,
I love your blog- frugal family fun. i am your newest follower. Your blog is just awesome for families.. especially in this economy. And I totally want to have a garden like yours when I get married and live with my husband (but for now he’s my fiance)
My fiance and I just started a blog called ZooZooReview at: zoozooreview.blogspot.com
We love going to zoos because they are affordable family fun. We can’t wait to have kids so that we can take them to the zoo! Because although, there are a lot of cool animals, kids are amazed more than any adult! 🙂

  12. Your garden looks awesome, and I loved the last picture. So impressed with all the veggies you grew already!

  13. Wow, your garden looks amazing! Have a great time enjoying the fruits of your labor!
