After our amazing encounter with the peacocks at the zoo, we were inspired to make some art!!
Lots of marbled paper was made using this technique with beautiful peacock hues of tropical blue, cobalt blue, and apple green — so much fun!!
What I love about this project is that each print is so unique — no two are exactly alike!
Added bonus — it keeps the kiddos happily occupied for a long time. Also?? GREAT for stress relief, so I highly recommend grown-ups trying a few prints of their own too!
Once the paper has dried, you can use it to make bookmarks, cards, or even pretty journals!
The girls are so proud of how these turned out! We’ll be using them for small gifts to teachers, friends, and grandparents.

What an awesome idea! I love the journals! My daughter has some friends who are 11 or 12 and enjoy writing and these would be perfect gifts!
We have done paper marbling with shaving cream and food coloring. It’s great fun!
My 3 1/2 year old daughter made marbled paper Easter Eggs at a town celebration. Here is how they did it:
Covered a table with a disposable plastic table cloth. Using plain Barbasol Shaving cream, squirted a flat pile on the table. Take 3 different colors of tempra paint, and squirt on the shaving cream. Use a popsicle stick and swirl the colors into the shaving cream. Place a cardstock egg on top of the shaving cream, and gently squish to cover the cardstock. Lift up the egg, and squeegee off the shaving cream/paint mixture. Quick, easy, very pretty! Squeegee off the table, and you are ready to go again!
Yes, we definitely want to do it one of these days. I am going to add it to our summer bucket 🙂

Hi Valerie, you can also make marbled paper with a tub of plain water and colorful chalks. Just scrape a stick of chalk with any open edge of a scissor into the water. The flecks will float on the water’s surface. Place your paper gently on top and lift up…they will make a different neat effect. Give it a try!

Lovely! And what a great idea to make and give journals as gifts. Even with all the digital stuff we have these days, there’s nothing like having a good old-fashioned journal/notebook to jot things down!
Those turned out super cute! I’ve done this activity with children before too, and they love it every time! I am surprised at how great the journals turned out! Looks like something I would pay to have done lol !
