I made a fun toy camera for Emily, and it’s been a big hit around here!
It’s just an empty soap box wrapped with colorful paper, and Β some milk caps glued on. We love crafting with recyclables — free art supplies!!
I colored the inside of the lens with black sharpie and added a drawn-on view finder. Very easy!!
For some reason, she loves to “take pictures” of me while I take pictures of her!! We may have a future photographer on our hands….. Annie Leibovitz, eat your heart out!
Wishing you a fun (and frugal) Friday!

What a great idea! I see a future photographer =)
Quite possibly! π
Dear Valerie,
Given Annie Leibovitz’s recent financial troubles, she may be using a similar camera now. π
Love,
Mark
Oh dear, I hope not! She may have to resort to pin hole cameras or some such thing…. yikes!
What a simple idea. At first glance, I thought you had bought her a camera.
Thanks, Cheryl! Clara wants one of her own too, so I might have to make another one for her to go around and say “Cheese”. π
Ha ha ha ha – Mark, you are so funny!
Very cute idea!
He cracks me up! I didn’t know anything about that until he posted that comment… Not sure how he finds these things!
Oh My Gosh! I love coming over here EVERYDAY and reading your Frugal advice. This one… makes me smile so much. Who would have thunk? Not me!
Excellent craft idea.
LOVE IT!!
That makes me very happy, Shari!! I’m thrilled you’ve been enjoying our little bloggy-blog! π
love this!! My son loves to play with cameras!
Yay!! It’s very easy to make — have fun!!
This is too cute! Love all your ideas! Guess what we’re making today;)
Wonderful!!! They are fun to make, and play with! Enjoy!!
What a cute idea – unbreakable camera where every picture is perfect.
LOL Emily pretends to take my picture and then says “Oh, you look wonderful!!” I am loving this camera. π
Very cute! If she continues to show an interest maybe you can get her one for Christmas or her birthday. Amareah uses her camera (VTech), which she got for Christmas last year, all the time. I keep batteries in it so when she’s feeling creative she can take some shots. She has a very good eye and takes the most unique and interesting pictures. She also takes silly one too! LOL… As a matter of fact it’s been awhile since we’ve uploaded some so I think I should entice her with that next week and see what she comes up with.
I remember seeing Amareah’s photos on your blog, and thought they were so interesting! She has a neat perspective… looking forward to seeing her newest works. π
That is so cute! Maybe you could even cut a slit at the back and have a “picture” come out! π
LOVE that idea!! (And I’m sure Emily will love it too!)
Ahh, the Recycle bin- it offers so much inspiration…
Doesn’t it??? It’s amazing what neat things you can create with recyclables!
oh MY GOSH YES IT IS. hOW fun. so creative. your just my idol

That came out really cute. Have a nice weekend.
You too, Debby! We have lots of fun things planned this weekend — yay!!
Hey Valerie,
Very cool blog. And, thank you for finally giving us crafts and activities that we can all do, easily. I come across other blogs and hang onto some that are like “martha stewart”. It looks great and easy enough until the attempt fails miserably.
Just wanted to drop you a note. I’ll be keeping your blog at the top of my favorites.
See you later,
Kt Yenawine
