Frugal Last Minute Gift Idea for Kids — Winter Lacing Cards

Every day this week I will be featuring frugal last minute gift ideas for kids.  These projects are very frugal and can be made with items you probably already have in your home.  You won’t want to miss any of these great projects, so if you are not already a follower of the Frugal Family Fun Blog, click here to become a follower!

Today’s project is Winter Lacing Cards.  These are perfect for preschoolers to work on fine motor skills, and to teach basic sewing techniques to children.  To make these festive lacing cards, you will need:
  1. Empty cereal boxes
  2. Pretty paper (I used paper scraps leftover from my Festive Winter Journals)
  3. Scissors
  4. Glue Stick
  5. Hole Puncher
  6. Shoelaces
Cut cereal boxes to have two sheets of cardboard.  Draw winter shapes onto the backs of the cereal box cardboard.  You could draw stars, stockings, Christmas trees, snowmen, etc.  Cut out the cardboard.  Trace the cutouts onto the pretty paper, and cut the design out to glue over the cardboard.  You will cover both sides of the cereal box with the paper.  Use plenty of glue stick.  Once the glue has dried, use a hole puncher to punch holes around the perimeter of the design.  Try to keep the holes evenly spaced. Add some shoelaces, and you are done!
