Here are some fun Dr. Seuss activities to celebrate Read Across America Day on March 2nd! This list features crafts, snacks, and lots of playtime fun! Most of these Dr. Seuss activities use recycled materials or other common household items you probably already have on-hand. Yay for simple, frugal, and fun learning activities!!
Fun Dr. Seuss Activities:
1. Oh, the Places You’ll Go! Craft and Writing Activity
This craft and writing activity inspired by the Dr. Seuss book Oh, The Places You’ll Go!was a big hit with my kids! They both enjoyed crafting up their own mini suitcases from brown paper lunch bags. Later, they added index cards to draw pictures and outline some of the details for upcoming adventures they are planning! Details here.
2. Red Fish, Blue Fish Handmade Card Craft
This Dr. Seuss Day craft is inspired by the book One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish to make a card decorated with fish! After reading the book, this would be a great project to work on listening skills (following directions), developing fine motor skills, and even a bit of practice using scissors. Details here.
3. Dr. Seuss Inspired Snacks
These Dr. Seuss snacks are super easy to prepare and are candy-free! These snacks are inspired by The Cat in the Hat, 10 Apples Up on Top, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. Here are some simple ways to make snack time a little more fun and festive — Dr. Seuss style! See the full list here.
4. Speck Discovery Lab (inspired by Horton Hears a Who)
Here’s how we created a “Speck” Discovery Lab inspired by the book Horton Hears a Who.It’s fun, educational, and very frugal! Details here.
5. Make Your Own Truffula Forest (inspired by The Lorax)
This Truffula Forest Craft would be a great classroom project. Have each child make one truffula tree, then combine them to form the forest! Details here.
6. Make Oobleck
If you are feeling inspired after reading Bartholomew and the Oobleck, you may want to try making some Oobleck of your own! All you need is corn starch, water, and food coloring. Thankfully, it is very easy and my friend Ana at Babble Dabble Do shares a step by step video tutorial showing how to make Oobleck. Get the full tutorial here.
