Teaching Kids About Fire Safety

I am so excited to share a new free app with you that is designed to make teaching kids about fire safety a fun and engaging process! Sparky and the Case of the Missing Smoke Alarms app is available for both iOS and Andriod devices. It’s free, easy to install, and super fun for the kids to explore!  A big thank you to our friends at the National Fire Prevention Association, who invited us to download a free app for teaching kids about fire safety, review important smoke alarm safety information, and for sponsoring today’s post!

Did you know that October 6-11, 2014 is Fire Prevention Week?

This is a great time of year to:

  • review fire safety with the kids and practice what to do in case a smoke alarm goes off.
  • designate an outdoor meeting spot in case of a fire.
  • replace any smoke alarms that are more than 10 years old.
  • download the Sparky and the Case of the Missing Smoke Alarms app to review with your kids.
  • print out free activity sheets from the National Fire Prevention Association to review important fire safety tips.

Inside the Sparky and the Case of the Missing Smoke Alarms App, you will find an interactive story and learning games designed for kids ages 5 and up. Sparky is bringing his friends Rosalie, Owen, and Nina to the grand opening celebration at Aunt Dotty’s Best Beeper Smoke Alarm Factory. When they show up at Aunt Dotty’s house, they notice that things have been stolen — including all of the smoke alarms!

As kids explore the app and help look for clues to figure out who could have stolen the missing smoke alarms, they can review important fire safety information along the way, including:

  • if a smoke alarm sounds, get outside (go to your designated meeting spot) and stay outside.
  • every bedroom needs a smoke alarm.
  • know at least 2 ways out of the home.
  • and more!

My six year old really enjoyed exploring this app, and reviewed the interactive storybook many times! It is packed with great animation, and kept her actively engaged while learning about fire safety in a fun and meaningful way. And it’s free!!
