Bang on the Drums All Day

I can’t even tell you how much FUN Clara had with our make-shift drum table this morning! I laid out a bunch of old pots and pans, lids, and some wooden spoons on her play table.

Then it was time to Rock N Roll!!!

She experimented using the spoons as drumsticks, and later hitting the pans with her hands bongo-style!

There was lots of singing to go along with all this “music”!!

She played her little heart out all morning!!

I think companies should do this before every meeting — it’s great stress relief!

Have fun!!

  1. Dear Valerie,

Now do I have to look in the toy bin every time I want to cook?

    Love,
    Mark

    • What do you mean every time “you” want to cook??? When exactly is that? πŸ˜‰

      and… .yes, quite possibly. O:-)

  2. pots and pans make the best percussion instruments!

  3. I always loved the idea of this but never the practice. Those pots and pans are loud! Did you quickly take the photos and then run to another room? πŸ˜‰

    • They are VERY loud!!!!

I joined in! (though only for a few minutes) It’s kind of like when two people eat garlic, they cancel each other out. πŸ™‚

  4. Future noise violation at work. πŸ™‚

  5. clara looks so happy..
maybe someday she become a famous drummer πŸ™‚

  6. We use round tins (like you get fancy butter cookies in) for our drum set. I can recommend chopsticks as a slightly quieter sort of drumstick. You can check out our set at http://jrlentblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/jacob-inventor.html

    Thanks for a great blog!

    • Fantastic!!! Jacob looks like he’s having a super-fun time with his drum set, and I love how you/he recycled the tins to make drums!

  7. Big plastic canisters work nicely too. It’s one of our favorite when-daddy’s-not-home activities πŸ™‚

    • LOL It’s good to enjoy some when-daddy’s-not-home activities once in awhile. We didn’t have any big plastic canisters, but I’ll be saving them if we come across some!

  8. Sometimes I think that’s exactly what’s happening at my remote coworkers’ houses when they join my conference calls πŸ™‚

  9. Oh Clara, you make me wanna sing…

“I don’t wanna work- I just wanna bang on the drum all day…”

  10. In my previous life as a music therapist, I actually facilitated quite a few corporate drum circles! Some really cool companies actually do bang on a drum for stress relief and team building. πŸ™‚

  11. Hahaha! I am not so sure that I am as brave as you:)

    • LOL Once in awhile it’s fun — but I don’t think I could take all the noise ALL the time!! πŸ™‚

  12. Fun! We made cardboard box drums – not quite as noisy. Cutting arches along the bottom of the box allows air in and creates a cool sound that you wouldn’t otherwise get from the box. Once in a while though we do pull out the pots and pans because the kids love to make noise.

I love Mark’s comment and your response!!!!!

I hope Emily is enjoying school. I look forward to hearing a little about it, even though that is not typically the type of thing you post here. HINT HINT, we bloggers are nosy! Sorry.

    • Love the idea of cardboard box drums!

Emily seems to be enjoying school quite a bit. The first day she came home and said that she is both having fun AND learning! I’ll be posting more about it soon!!

  13. Looks like she had a great time.

  14. Great idea! I’m a stay-at-home mom, and I’m always looking for creative, fun and CHEAP ways to play with my son at home. I love the homemade drum set idea. I’m a mommy blogger, too (www.mybossisteething.com).

    • Hi, and welcome to FFFB! You’ve come to the right place! πŸ™‚ I’m off to check out your site — love the name of it!!

  15. Rock star!! Love this!!
