Just as I was about to tackle the pile of dirty dishes in the sink, the girls asked if they could do some crafting. Well! They didn’t have to twist my arm!! Those dishes can wait.
Instead, I put together a super-quick, CUTE, tiny, fairy house building kit for them. It’s made with some leftover (and almost forgotten about) craft supplies we already had on-hand. Some small bottles of paint, a paintbrush, some glass gems, sea shells, various cheap unfinished wooden craft items — all great for encouraging plenty of creative playtime fun!
So we went outside and painted.. and painted.. and painted!!
And yes, there are still dishes in the sink. Ask me if I care. (Hint — I don’t!)
But what I DO care about is watching these girls of mine paint their little hearts out. Oh! And joining in the painting fun with them too!!!
We painted along side each other for a good portion of the afternoon. We stopped only to gather some sticks, pieces of bark, and other natural materials for their lovely fairy houses — and then more painting!
Clara was in a “purple” mood today.
Oh, who am I kidding?? She’s in a “purple” mood everyday! Do your kids do that too? Paint everything the same color??
Once the pieces had dried, we spent the rest of the afternoon building our little fairy houses, playing together, and rearranging them over and over.
They. LOVED. This!!
It didn’t take long for the fairies to move in and make themselves comfortable.
And if you ask me, memories like these….
…totally trump dirty dishes in the sink.
Have fun!!
Dear Valerie,
No silly comment today. I just wanted to mention that I ate some of my dinner outside tonight because Clara really wanted to show me all of the stuff that she had painted.
Love,
Mark
She was so PROUD!! 🙂
That must have been quite the tour, Mark… :0)
(Great job girls! NOW I know why there are no fairies at our house- they have all moved into your houses!)
If only we could convince these fairies to do the dishes… 😉
Oh yes… dishes can wait 🙂
I adore your Fairy House… how wonderfully creative. It is too sweet! I’d love for you to enter it into our Fairy Garden Contest over on my blog, The Magic Onions… http://themagiconions.blogspot.com/2012/04/fairy-garden-contest-2012.html
Blessings and magic,
Donni
Thanks, Donni! We’ll be entering — looks like fun!!!
Beautiful houses! This is the stuff memories are made of.
Thank you, Natalie! Love making memories like this — so special!
Very cute idea.
Thank you!! 🙂
Valerie,
I am so impressed with how far you have come with being so creative. This site is so pretty.
You have really built an empire. The girls are as cute as ever.
Hugs,
Debby
The one color thing is the primary way I tell my kids’ projects apart.
