Here’s another fun post for our series of Inexpensive Mother’s Day Gifts Kids Can Make (using items found at the hardware store)!!
Mark doesn’t know it yet, but I’m secretly plotting to have our kitchen countertops re-done. I picked up some samples, and a few price quotes the last time I was at the hardware store. These pretty bookmarks were made from leftover laminate samples, which makes them very sturdy. Added bonus — they were so easy to make!
If you don’t have laminate samples at home, they are available for free at any hardware store. I used old kitchen scissors to trim the sides of the sample, and I was surprised how easy it was to cut through the laminate!
I trimmed about 1 cm on either side, and then rounded the corners a bit.
Emily helped thread the ribbon through the hole at the top, and they were done!
But wait — there’s more……
I cut up the leftover strips that we had into smaller pieces for Emily to create a fun mosaic card!
She’ll take any excuse to use glue, and the look is quite unique!
I think she would spend all day gluing things, if I let her.
I think it turned out great, and there’s enough laminate leftover for a “Dad” card later too!

What good ideas. The pattern on the laminate makes for an interesting design. I can imagine the fun my children would have making the mosaic. It's too late for Mother's Day in the UK, but I could use this idea for another project.
