For a fun time, go outside and set up some sand or dirt on a table with some old baking tins. Add a pitcher of water, and some spoons. Make mud pies!!
I can remember spending entire afternoons making mud pies when I was a kid. I think mine were decorated with sticks for birthday candles. There’s something about kids and dirt… they just go so well together, don’t they?
Decorate your mud pies (or cupcakes, if you prefer) with flower icing!
Make batch after batch of mud pies, since they sell out so quickly at the mud bakery from such high demand! Phew! This is hard work!
Have fun!!
Dear Valerie,
If only we were birds, and needed sand / rocks in our gizzards to digest food.
These pies / cupcakes would be invaluable.
So, how many did you eat, and did you save me any?
Love,
Mark
I can't wait until we can get into summer clothes and water play. It's been uncommonly cold here. The girls are clearly having a blast!
Your sweet girls look like they are having so much fun and the flower icing is the best! : )
It's a sad childhood, that is without mud pies. Love the flowersβΊ
What fun! We're still having snow on, and off, so I think the kid's might object to a hosing down, to clean off all the mud, before they were allowed back inside π
We love mud pies! Lots of fun! I like the flowers on top! Clara looks so much older all of a sudden. Maybe it's her hair.
The flowers are a very nice touch. I remember hours spent making mud pies, too. We also used to make mud bad-guy-detector traps, that were magic trampolines for "good guys" and quicksand (going into dungeons) for "bad guys". And at least one of my younger siblings used to try to eat our mud pies…
@ An Almost Unschooling Mom — You could make "mudsicles" (popsicles out of mud)…. or maybe not! We are having unseasonably warm days here. Today it was almost 90! Crazy weather!
@ Christy — Mark and I keep saying the same thing. It's like she grew up overnight! I think she had a growth-spurt. My baby is all grown up!
@ MaryAnne — That is incredibly imaginative! Wow!!
Such pretty mud pies!
My son made mud cookies today from egg cartons. He lets them dry, then pops them out and brings them to me on a plate. So fun!
I was just thinking we needed to make some mud pies. My youngest LOVES to get messy. Thanks for the inspiration! I'll time this for a bath day. π
@ Artistmama — That is adorable!! How can you stand all the cuteness? π
@ Christianne @ Little Page Turners — That is so smart! Good thinking!! π
@ Katie's Nesting Spot — I agree! A childhood without mud pies is seriously deprived! π
How cute! Oh we used to make mud pies every day as kids! We also had the muffin tin like that in our sandbox and made them often! Great memories! π
I see that you are crafty, so I'm wondering if you would be interested in participating in my Mom Blogger Contest for $100 Cash prize during the month of April for MissTutu.com?
The details are here http://www.misstutu.com/mom-blogger-contest.html
Thanks for considering! I think your readers will really enjoy this too since they get a free tutu making lesson!
Jenni
So, I just found a picture of me around that age covered from head to toe in mud. None of that fancy sandbox stuff that comes off so easy, mud, mud, mud. My kids make mud soup, and add anything in the backyard they can pick up.
@ Jenn — Brings back such great memories, doesn't it? I'm off to check out the contest, thanks for the heads-up! What fun!
@ Ticia — That's so funny!! Now that you mention it, I remember making mud soup when I was a kid too! Good times! π
Very cute… those cupcakes look yummy! But I think I'll save mine 'til later.
Looks like fun. Are those forsythia flowers? That and lilac bushes are two of my favorites which I grew up with in Chicago. We can't grow them in California.
@ Just Breathe — Yes, they are forsythias. They are always one of the first signs of Spring here! I never knew that they don't grow in California. The weather must be too nice for them there! π
