Will You Be My Paint Chip Valentine?

The girls and I were busy crafting up these handmade Valentine’s Day cards made from leftover paint chips (found free at any hardware or paint store). We had a bunch of different shades of red and pink, which made perfect Valentine cards!
To make your own paint chip Valentine’s, place two paint chips back-to-back as shown above.
I used a zig zag stitch around the perimeter of the card, and trimmed the edges with pinking shears. Very quick!

Emily and I took turns punching out hearts with the help of our heart-shaped hole puncher…

…and the girls went to town decorating their handmade Valentine’s! For Clara, I put down a few dots of glue and she placed the hearts on top. Great practice for fine-motor skills, and she was so proud of herself!
Emily got to practice some handwriting, and she is looking forward to mailing these off to Grandma!

These were so much fun to make!!

  5. Love the sewing element of the card. Very pretty!

By the way, I finally resent the package to you – yesterday. I apologize for it taking sooo long to get to you. Fingers crossed it should get to you by next week, the latest.

  6. Adorable.

  7. These are adorable! Too bad I don't have a sewing machine πŸ™ Maybe we could clue ours and use some stickers around the edges or something. Will have to look around and see what I can find! Thanks for the idea!

  8. Love the idea of sewing on card… what are paint chips?

  10. Wonder Mom says

Shagdelic! We are doing something with paint chips too (but the sewing machine is DEFINITELY not involved!).

  11. I love this! Do you use a special needle on your machine when you sew through paper? I've never used my machine for paper so I'm clueless.

  12. Valerie @ Frugal Family Fun Blog says

@ Marie — Nope, I just use a plain ol' regular needle. For something like this, it should be fine. I've sewn through craft foam before, and I had to adjust the thread tension a bit, but I didn't have to do anything for the paint chips. Have fun!!

  13. Raising a Happy Child says

What a great idea. Okay now all the stores are going to be wondering where all the pink and red chips went!

  18. Those are super cute. I actually bought the children V-Day cards from the dollar store about a month ago before they were all picked over so no crafting for us. πŸ™‚
