Both of the girls are so proud of how their beautiful stained glass snowflakes turned out, and they were so easy (and frugal) to make! Clara was delighted to have a go at this craft, and gave a huge smile when she saw her finished work on display in the window.
Using a snowflake-shaped cookie cutter as a pattern, trace the outline onto black construction paper. Older kids can do this themselves, or even for a younger sibling too. You didn’t think I did all that tracing myself, did you?
Cut out the snowflakes, and place on top of a sheet of clear contact paper with the sticky side up. Invite your child over to sprinkle the snowflakes with tiny pieces of tissue paper. Clara was so happy to do this!
Encourage your child to cover all the snowflakes with the tissue paper confetti.
Cover with another sheet of clear contact paper over top, and trim the edges. Hang in a bright window!
Beautiful! Have fun!!
This idea is going into my lessons for next week- you rock!
Also, check out another one of your ideas in action…

Those are so pretty!
Dear Valerie,
Do you ever use cookie cutters to make cookies?
Love,
Mark
@ Wonder Mom — Yay!! I get so excited when I see things like that, thank you!
@ Mark — My cookies are more of a threat than a blessing. Don't worry, though, because I washed them off really well so YOU can bake some delicious cookies, if you want…. (hint, hint). π
Beautiful =)
Isn't it neat how they glow in the sunshine? I love this sort of craft.
Great idea! So pretty! we haven't made a suncatcher since we moved and our windows need some decor!
I like it! A glue free option π
so pretty! we do this for st. patty's day with shamrocks, but why not for wintertime snowflakes?
love it!
Sun catchers always look so pretty. I like the snow flakes and teachmama's idea for the Shamrocks.
I love them!! Can't wait to try them next week ;0)
These are soooo beautiful Valerie!
I really love this one!
How bright and beautiful!
This looks so fun and easy! I think the kids and I will do this next week! Thanks for sharing!
AmmieJo
So beautiful. And the tearing of the tissue paper helps with fine motor control!
Beautiful!! Two things I never seem to have in my craft cupboard – contact paper and tissue paper… this is why I need them! Starring this in my reader. π
REALLY cute!
They turned out great! I used to do something similar in my classroom.
So easy and great looking!
They look so pretty.
So pretty! I really have to go and buy some contact paper, except I have no idea where they sell it π
I so love this! This is definitely on my list, and I even think I've got all the stuff. Fantastic!
@ An Almost Unschooling Mom — I think Clara really loved how nice hers looked in the window, like it was all lit up!
@ teachmama — Shamrocks would be so nice too! Great idea!!
@ learningandlivingbyfaith — Great!! Please let us know how they turn out, and have fun!
@ Infant Bibliophile — Yes, yes add tissue paper and contact paper to your craft cabinet. We make so many crafts using them!
@ Raising a Happy Child — I found clear contact paper at Target, so if there is one near you, check there! It's with the shelf-liners.
@ pinkmilkisyummy — Fabulous! Do let us know how they turn out! I'm sure it will be a lot of fun!
I’ve found that this type of stained window can be extra fun for little ones if you show them how to press down the tissue paper by slapping it down. An excuse to make noise, yay!
