This cute Autumn tree suncatcher is an easy craft that even the little ones can do, and it doesn’t involve any messy glue. To make your own Autumn tree suncatcher, you will need: clear contact paper, tissue paper, construction paper, and scissors.
Pre-cut some leaf shapes out of tissue paper. I folded the tissue paper many times before making any cuts, and this made the cutting much faster. Also, cut some brown construction paper to form a tree trunk, and some green construction paper to make some grass. Older kids can do the cutting themselves.
Next, lay a sheet of contact paper sticky side up, and attach the trunk and grass to one side. Invite your child to arrange the leaves on and around the tree.
Fold the contact paper over to form a seal. Trim the edges, and hang with a ribbon.
Admire your beautiful suncatcher!
Dear Valerie,
Do you ever use contact paper for its intended purpose?
Love,
Mark
@ Mark — Remind me, again… What exactly is the intended purpose of contact paper? Also, when was the last time I used anything for its intended purpose?
So cute! I want to do this with the kids, but I don't want to admit summer is over!!
That turned out great!
This came out great! I can't wait to try it with my little one!
Great way to welcome in fall! We are going apple picking soon…maybe we'll make ours apple trees. Thanks!
Adorable as always!
That is really pretty!
Our contact paper is strictly for crafts.
I'm waiting for Mark's answer. I agree with you Valerie. Contact paper was invented so kids could stick stuff to it!
The suncatchers look great!
So cute! I think we might have to try this π
That is really cute!!
Oh, I love it. My kind of craft. We will be doing that very soon!
Very cute, and so cheerful!
Super cool. I like this i'm going to have to make me some once I figure out where to buy contact paper. LOL yeah i don't know what that is. lol I'm trying to learn all this fancy shamnsy arts and crafts stuff.
You're my go to person, so I have scrapcook paper and some stuff when I use glue the paper bubbles. What should I use to "glue" stuff to scrapbook paper when making cards and stuff?
You should do a meme, friday's Questions and answers day and save all the ?'s people as you each week and answer them in a post. I can't be the only with ?'s, am I? LOL
So cute. Love Fall! I just saw a leaf version of this same thing that I am going to try with my almost two year old.
Valerie, I think I am loving your husband's comments as much I am loving your projects. He really makes me laugh! Bring em on Mark!!!
That is cute. So, do you have projects hanging around all over the house? π … I remember when I was a little girl, I used to love looking at suncatchers.
I can't even remember what contact paper is for… I just figured it is supposed to be used for crafts. LOL
Dear All,
I was always under the impression, and this may be incorrect, that contact paper was meant for laminating sheets of paper.
Mark
Valerie, haven't you blogged about using contact paper to laminate? Or maybe you just commented on my blog sometime?
This suncatcher is lovely!
This was the perfect EASY, fast and free project to do yesterday with my boys – thank you! It was a great transition from outside playtime to naptime, and they are sooo proud of their fall trees!
This is really cute!
LOVE this idea! May have to give it a try tomorrow.
What is contact paper? (Looks kind of like wax paper?? But wax paper has no sticky side!)
What a pretty craft! Fun to make and pretty to look at! I like how the sun shines through it. Very cool.
We are soooooo making this one!
Contact paper is found with the shelf liner paper. It is great for any and all projects. I use it to protect book covers – make them strong like library book covers or for paperbacks – makes the cover last longer. Use it for crafts, laminating, place it on my maps so they don't fall apart
I love this idea and can't wait to do this with my son. Now if he will just wake up from his nap π
This is so beautiful! I love to use contact paper for a lot of activities too. In fact, I can't imagine why they make clear contact paper if it isn't for these purposes?? π
I LOVE this and added a link back to it on my blog! Thanks for sharing this as it has rained almost a week straight and we were getting a little down about not being able to do a craft that has to do with leaves! We are sending these to grandparents as Welcome Fall gifts π Brandi
another lovely idea,!!!
