That is exactly what I recently learned about with a new telehealth service called Amwell. I recently used Amwell and I’m excited to share my experience with you! As a busy parent, there are many times when I need a (non emergency) medical question answered, I am unsure if something requires a visit to the doctor, or I simply don’t have the time to schedule an office visit. Amwell is a great option to connect with a family physician to answer a medical question or concern 24 hours a day 7 days a week! In many cases, visits take less than 10 minutes to complete and you can even have prescriptions sent to your nearest pharmacy! I was so impressed by the convenience of this service!

Amwell provides interfaces for both mobile devices or desktops. For the purposes of this review, I used my laptop. Shortly after logging in, I was able to select from a long list of family physicians or nutritionists. I loved that several providers were available to connect immediately! My question could answered by a nutritionist, since I wanted to discuss ways to deal with a picky eater. I chose a nutritionist who was available, and had many 5 star reviews from other users.

You can run a test to ensure your computer is set up for optimal video chat. Once you initial and agree to the terms of service, click connect to be brought to the next screen.
In less than 2 minutes, I was connected with a nutritionist, Cristina, who could address my concerns via a live video chat! Wait times may vary, and there is an option to have a text message sent once your provider is ready to see you. Once connected, you can click the “Call Me” button if you experience any sound issues, and you will not lose your video or chat connection. During the video chat, I experienced very few issues with the sound. At one point, the audio cut out a bit, and Cristina typed the phrase into the chat. Otherwise, I found the video and sound quality to be quite good!
Cristina was friendly and knowledgable! In less than 10 minutes, she provided me with several tips and ideas to use with my six year old who can be a bit of a picky eater, and I cannot wait to implement her ideas! My visit was very reassuring. With Cristina’s help, I feel empowered (and excited) to try new things!
