#MakeHomeYours with HomeGoods

Like many homeowners, there are areas of our home that are in need of a makeover.  The guest room was a project that kept getting put off for some other time. That is just one of the reasons why I was so excited to be part of the #MakeHomeYours campaign from one of my favorite stores – HomeGoods! It was just what I needed to finally kick it into high gear to get the room done while finding pieces that could make the space unique. I invited my good friend and Inner Child Fun Craft Assistant Kim to join me, and we had so much fun shopping at HomeGoods together! Shopping is always more fun when you bring a friend along, don’t you think?

I wanted to create a space for our guests where they could relax and unwind. Our guest room was the perfect example of a blank slate. It had white walls, very little furniture, and hardly any decor items. I knew HomeGoods would be a great place to find beautiful storage pieces, high-end bedding, lamps, quality wall art, and unique home decor items because wherever I have items from HomeGoods on display in other parts of my home, they are the pieces that our guests gravitate towards and talk about the most. I wanted our guests to feel welcome! Kim and I picked out a color scheme based on items that were staying in the room and the new warm wheat paint color for the walls. Then we headed over to HomeGoods where there are beautiful displays that are sorted by color and style making it easy to find unique home decor items that would take this space to the next level.

Guest Room Makeover - Before and After

Just walking into the store made us both smile! One of the best things I love about shopping at HomeGoods is all the surprises! I am so thankful that the store is near where I live because I shop there quite frequently, looking through their ever-changing merchandise. We filled our carts with bedding, pillows, window treatments, a blanket, wall art, mirrors, candles and other smaller decor items that would bring a feeling of relaxation to our guest room space without being too drab or dull. Then we did a little happy dance when we saw how nicely it was all going to come together!

Here are the BEFORE photos of our boring “bare bones” guest room:

Inside our basic room, you can hardly even see the headboard on the bed because it blends in with the walls. Here is the other side…

Guest Room Makeover - Before and After

While Kim and I were filling our carts with finds at HomeGoods, my husband Mark was prepping the walls and painting the room. Once the painting was done, Kim and I got to work arranging and experimenting with what looked best. We even “shopped” through other rooms of the house.

… and here are the AFTER photos!

I love how relaxing the room feels, yet the bright pops of orange help liven it up a bit. The orange, navy, and turquoise show my love of color!

We now have a super fabulous place for our guests to stay, unwind, and relax. The best part is that every time I step foot in here, I am reminded of all the fun Kim & I had while shopping and moving things around until they were just perfect! This room will always make me smile! Guest Room Makeover - Before and After

Thanks to my husband Mark for painting, hanging window treatments, and other heavy lifting. A big thank-you to HomeGoods for sponsoring, and to Kim for keeping me on track and putting up with me while shopping. Guest Room Makeover - Before and After

The koi finger painting was a collaborative project that my daughter Clara (age 7 at the time) and I did together one rainy afternoon. We followed a video tutorial from the lovely Iris Scott. It seems right at home in this room adding to the tranquil feeling!
