Passport to Imagination

Early last week, I took the kids to visit Michael’s craft store for their Passport to Imagination program. It was a big hit!! Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from now until August 2nd 10am-noon, Michael’s is hosting 2 kid-friendly craft projects inspired by countries around the world for just $2 per child per visit. It’s a great (and inexpensive) way to experience some educational and crafty fun during the Summer months! I should say it is designed for kids ages 5 and up. That being said, Emily (age 9) enjoyed the projects very much and could do them all without any help from me. Clara (age 5) needed a bit of help, but could still actively participate in the process!

The projects are very straight-forward and easy to do, and the instructors from Michael’s help lead the group through the crafting process. Last Monday, we made dioramas of the Grand Canyon (USA), and mini hockey sticks (inspired by Canada). The following Wednesday, it was mini Liberty Bells (USA), and God’s Eye project (Mexico) — that were super cute and easy to do!

The Passport to Imagination program also includes instructions for a quick and easy at-home craft project, along with shopping lists to help you find all the supplies you might need. I’ll be sharing more on the leather bracelet take-home project we did that was inspired by South Aftrica very soon!

If you haven’t already participated in the Passport to Imagination program at Michael’s and your kids enjoy doing crafts, I highly recommend it as a great introduction to world culture! You may even be inspired to visit your local library afterwards to check out more information on the countries featured, or create some worldly crafts of your own!
