Children love to draw, paint, and create, and seem inherently creative. To further encourage your children to understand that their artwork is valuable and unique, I’ve created a list of five great story books that inspire artistic creativity!
Ish – This is one of my all-time favorite books! Ramon loves to draw, but when he gets criticized, he loses his confidence in his abilities. This tale encourages children that their artwork does not have to be perfect in order to be a great piece of art.
The Dot – Vashti is discouraged with her art assignment, and in a moment of anger, she makes a dot on the paper. From this point forward, Vashti doesn’t let this “dot” define her, as she learns that artistic creativity has been within her the entire time! Simple, sweet, and one of the most inspiring books I’ve ever read!
Beautiful Oops – A delightful, interactive book about making mistakes, and then turning them into something beautiful! Did you accidentally tear the paper? Build that into the design! Ruined artwork because of spilled milk? Think again; it’s now the outline of an animal. This book is especially for the parents of perfectionist children!
Perfect Square – Similar to Beautiful Oops, Perfect Square is the story of a square that gets changed daily. Even though he is no longer the “perfect” square he once was, but each instance, he has evolved and has turned into something beautiful. After reading this book, it’s guaranteed that your little one will be inspired to explore and create with a simple square of construction paper.
Harold and the Purple Crayon – No creative list would be complete without this classic book! Harold and his crayon have ignited a creative spark in generations of children, as they let their imaginations soar!
