Kid-Friendly Printmaking

Clara and I did some fun printmaking to make greeting cards using some things we already had on-hand and a mini paint roller from the dollar store (they come in packs of 2 for $1!). This kept her happy and busy all morning long!!

As soon as she saw me bring out the stickers and paints, she ran over to the table to get started!

We used foam stickers and recycled some corrugated cardboard to make a “printing plate”. Clara loved arranging the stickers exactly the way she wanted them. Next, we used mini paint rollers with washable paint on top of the stickers.

I showed her how to place a sheet of paper on top, and use a rolling pin to press down her design. She loved using the rolling pin! Bonus points for wearing your princess dress and tiara!!

Carefully peel off your paper for a fun reveal! Clara thought this part was AWESOME!!

We.. um…. made LOTS of prints, and experimented with several different paint color combinations, recycled scrap paper, and even sheets of recycled newspaper to make festive (eco-friendly) wrapping paper!

Have fun!!

  2. I love the idea of using a rolling pin for this!

  3. Very neat! You managed to get very clear, non-smudged prints too!

  4. This looks like so much fun! I would never have though to use a rolling pin! Post quite time activity now planned πŸ™‚

  5. Yay! I’ve been wanting to make some wrapping paper for a gift for my nephew, but haven’t been able to interest anyone in helping me. I think this will be just the ticket πŸ™‚

  6. Darn it! My Tiara is in the shop and my pearls are at the jewelers, so I suppose I will have to try this activity in my usual sweatpants… ;0)

  7. I gave my rolling pins to the arts a long time ago and haven’t used it since, so this will be a great activity to remind my husband that it was worth it!(I bought another one for the kitchen a couple of weeks later:) I will have to try this with kool aid paint to make scratch and sniff Valentine Cards. I was happy when my almost 4 year old was looking at the cards at the store and decided she would rather make hers!!!!

  8. Fantastic. At first, I thought you attached the stickers to the rolling pin and rolled it through the paint. And now I totally want to try doing that. πŸ™‚

  9. You always have such fun ideas Valeria! πŸ™‚ We have some foam heart stickers – and scrap cardboard too. I am thinking a valentine’s version of this!! Ooo! πŸ™‚

  10. Valerie, sorry! I typed in “Valeria.” I have a neighbor who is named Valeria (pronounced val-air-ee-uuh) and I find myself typing that often on accident instead of Valerie πŸ™‚

  11. That will be so much fun!

  12. Fantastic idea!!! I love it and the supplies are nice and cheap! Really beautiful result! I can’t wait to try this.

You could use it for winter decorating and then put the sheets away for next years holiday wrapping paper.

  13. That looks like fun!

  14. Brilliant!! We are def doing this for Valentines Day!
