Easy Lacy Snowflakes!

These lacy snowflakes were perfect for adding some winter cheer to our house! It was a quick and easy project, plus it gave Emily lots of practice with the scissors! They turn out perfectly every time, giving the kiddos some early success using scissors!

To make your own lacy snowflakes, you’ll need some paper doilies (I find packages of these at the dollar store all the time), scissors, and some construction paper for a background.

I pre-folded a bunch of the doilies in half three times, and Emily cut small shapes along the folds. A cookie tray helped to catch all the little bits of paper. Easy!!

Open your snowflake for the big reveal!!!

Use a glue stick to attach your snowflake to a piece of construction paper — we especially love how these look on blue or purple backgrounds!

“I see you!!”

Have fun!!

  2. Dear Valerie,

…and then you bake the doily bits at 400 degrees for 30 minutes and make easy black charcoal powder!

    Love,
    Mark

  14. Ooh, when I saw this I had to smile. During free class time my 5 year old used 3 different sized paper doilies to make me 1 big one for our dining room table. I love the bright red feather and Monogrammed M & D she added LOL.

    Your snowflakes are beautiful!

  15. good idea! with a touch of red or pink paper in the background they could make some fun homemade valentines!

  16. Great idea. I like that it’s simple and comes out pretty. I’ve linked up to your post on my weekly favorites here: http://play2grow.blogspot.com/2011/01/weekly-favorites-for-january-23-2011.html

  17. Valerie, I am so inspired by you. Although I am old now, 67 years old, I was an elementary teacher and preschool teacher for many years. Art projects were the most fun of all!
Your children will never forget these wonderful times with their mother. You are an example to us all.
    Sincerely,
    Mary
