Quick Craft: Modern Hand Painted Trivets

These modern hand painted trivets would make great hostess gifts for family or friends, and are easy enough for even the littlest crafter to make with great success! With just a few inexpensive materials, these can be custom-made to match any kitchen. My 5 year old was quite proud of how hers turned out, and I love that these are so useful!

Quick Craft: Modern Hand Painted Trivets

To make your own hand painted trivets, you will need: acrylic paint, paint brush, masking tape, and cork heat pads (we used these ones from IKEA).

Invite your child to make designs on the trivet using masking tape. Press the tape down firmly (the back of a spoon works very well for this).

Next, encourage your child to use a dry paint brush to cover the entire surface with a coat of acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Once the paint is completely dry, remove the masking tape for a fun “reveal”!

Outline your child’s designs using a permanent marker for a finishing touch, if desired. Besides using these as trivets, they would also make great mini bulletin boards as well!

These are fantastic looking! I have those same, boring Ikea trivets. If I use acrylic paint on them, will they hold up to the heat??
