  10. I loved reading anywhere comfy. Bed, couch, etc. Those read-a-thons at school were the best just because you could curl up with a nice pillow and blanket and not be at a desk! lol

  11. The book that stands out from my childhood was A Wrinkle in Time. It’s more of a young adult book, but I read and reread that one many times!

    My favorite book was from my school’s library, Queen Elizabeth and the Spanish Armada. The book’s card was a list of my name, over and over.

  14. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi a story from The Jungle Book -from a book I was given by my older brothers and sister, still have it today to read to my daughters now, just looked at it now, the pages are a bit yellow, pictures are basic compared to todays standards;)

  27. My fav childhood book would have to be all of the Dr. Seuss books, but especially Green Eggs and Ham. Especially b/c I still remember my kindergarten teacher cooking us up some green eggs and ham and it being very tasty! I am 28 now and I still haven’t forgotten! 🙂

  40. My all time favorite book was Anne of Green Gables. I think I started that series when I was 10 or so and I still read them. Before that I loved the Random House book of Children’s Poetry. I still have some of those poems memorized. I got it for my boys and they love it too!

  41. We had a big old live oak in our front yard that had one branch to sit on with another branch behind & up a little that made a perfect back support. I used to climb up there all the time to read.

  59. When I was a kid a would take a pillow and blanket and lock myself in the bathroom. I would make a cozy nest in front of the heating vent and have all the privacy I wanted!

I know it is kind of a strange pick but there you have it. I loved it – still have a fondness for reference books : )

  87. I guess they’re for slightly older kids, but my favorites were always The Baby Sitters Club. I don’t remember having a favorite when I was younger, but I always liked The Berenstain Bears too.

  88. My favorite place to read was right in front of my bookshelf. There was my dresser on one side, and the wall on the other. I had a big pillow against the dresser, and would put my feet on the wall.

  89. My favorite book when I was about 6 years old was a collection of Greek myths that my great-grandmother gave me. It had these really neat little snippets at the end of each story connecting to things in the modern world, like how we get the name for the colorful flower or colored part of the eye from Iris the Goddess of the rainbow. I can still picture the robin’s egg blue cover!

  92. I absolutely loved to read on this picnic table my mom had set up in our back yard. To this day, when I think of summer I think of sitting there at the picnic table with armfuls from the library, going through the whole stack in the sunshine! I hope to instill the same love of reading in my girls 🙂

  93. My favorite book was a hand-me-down from my cousins called Franklin Stein. It was a fantastic story about a young boy who makes a creature from discarded junk. The colors were simple and primary. I’m lucky enough to be able to share it now with my oldest daughter (2).

  94. My favorite place to read growing up was in a hammock in the backyard at my dad’s house. It was underneath a tree and every now and then, leaves would land on the pages.

  101. Hmmm, one of my favorite childhood picture books that I can remember is The New Baby by Ruth and Harold Shane, and illustrated by Eloise Wilkin. I have such fond memories of the books illustrated by her and love to read them to my own kids.

    My favorite place to read was on the shelf in my closet, with a lamp for light and the sliding closet doors closed. Now when I think about it, I realize how bizarre that was. I mean there wasn’t anything stored on the shelf in the closet!! My Mom must’ve been the queen of a minimalist lifestyle.

    I’ll never forget the day I fell asleep under there and was woken up to the sound of sirens one day when I was about 8. Seems no one could find me, so my dad called the police, who called the fire department to *drag the creek near our home*! They had looked for me everywhere (so they thought) and that was the last place to look before assuming I’d been kidnapped. After that, I had to show my parents all of my “secret” hiding places!

    I had so many favorite books. I loved Dr. Seuss and when I got bigger I loved babysitters club, nancy drew, and my all time favorite book Little Women.

  184. As a child, I would curl up almost every night with “Dr. Suess’s Sleep Book.” No matter what else I was reading, I loved to thumb through the pages, tracing over all the drawings and counting all the animals that were falling asleep. My children love this book now, too.

  185. I was a mega reader as a child (and since – I’m currently working on a master’s of English!). The best place EVER to read was on our porch swing. I would just drift away, sweet tea sweating on the boards under me, feet crossed on top of the arm rest. Now it’s my bed; with two very little girls, I grab any chance to read and relax that I can get!
