Quick Craft — Salty Snowflake Ornaments

Did you know that 32 oz Stonyfield yogurt containers have clear lids that are perfect for recycling into snowflake ornaments?? Emily had such a great time making these, plus they were so simple and easy to make! Poke a hole at the top. Use double-sided tape to form a snowflake design on the lid (older kids can do this themselves). Then invite your child to sprinkle salt on top to cover the design!!

Shake, shake, shake — This was definitely Emily’s favorite part!! Next, lift up the lid, and shake off any excess salt to reveal your beautiful snowflake!!

Yay!! So pretty!!!

Thread some ribbon through the hole for hanging. Since the lids are clear, they make festive sun catchers too!

Quick, simple, and frugal!

Have fun!!

  1. Dear Valerie,

Did you know that we’ve had that container of sea salt longer than Emily has been alive? O_o

    Love,
    Mark

  2. Nice! Thanks for the idea. Those would also be nice with colored salt, like red, green or whatever colors you have going in your tree 🙂

  3. LOL Mark. Valerie I love that idea!! Wonder if you could color the salt that would look really neat with different colors.

    • Yes, just use food coloring and salt in a ziploc baggie and have the kiddos massage/shake around the salt in the bag so the hands don’t get stained, until it’s the color you want. 🙂

  4. Very cute! Love simple ideas like this =)
